What is an American-style folding box?
The American-style folding box (FEFCO 0201) has eight flaps, four on the top and four on the bottom. Once folded, the box is sealed with tape.
Folding boxes with overlapping flaps
In addition to the standard box, some customers look for a folding box with overlapping flaps. Instead of meeting in the middle, the flaps on the top and bottom fully cover the width. This creates two layers of cardboard for extra strength on both the top and bottom. You can easily find these boxes by filtering for FEFCO 0203.
Which flute type should you choose?
Folding boxes are available in almost any size and in multiple strengths. We offer single-wall boxes (3 mm and 4 mm) and double-wall boxes (4.5 mm and 7 mm). The thicker the flute, the more protection it provides. Thicker boxes can also carry more weight. Double-wall boxes are more common for larger box sizes.

Extra-large folding boxes are often made in double-wall (BC flute) or even triple-wall (ACA flute) for maximum strength and protection.
Small folding boxes
Small boxes are often used for fragile products and typically have a B-flute. If the product already has strong packaging and you only need an extra layer of cardboard, you could opt for an E-flute box. For small E-flute folding boxes, we also recommend looking at our mailing boxes, which offer a bit more strength.
